Learning a new skill is humbling, even for an exceptional tutor. It’s important for educators to keep learning, so we can stay in touch with the ego swallowing feeling of being a beginner.

Double exceptional students
Many times when I speak to parents they say, “Well, I heard you work with students who have learning disabilities. My child is gifted.” When I hear this statement, I immediately want to say, “You can be gifted AND have a learning disability; the two are not mutually exclusive.” But I usually wait before I respond in such a way since some may feel unsettled to even hear those words grouped within the same sentence. Here’s a great link with many resources that explains how students can be “double exceptional,” or gifted and struggling with learning disabilities. Some of the most accomplished people in the world fit this profile.
